Building Healthy Families in Rwanda

There are many ways to build healthy families. Our team in Rwanda is passionate about providing families with practical knowledge on health, hygiene and nutrition. At a recent training day, 25 couples from 10 different churches in Rubavu District, Gisenyi Town were provided with practical training on hand washing techniques and using clean water as well as how families can achieve good nutrition on a budget. Family Impact Country Director Peter Binama taught that in addition to eating meat, families can increase their vitamin intake and improve their overall nutrition and health by adding a variety of vegetables to their diets.

Workshops such as these are particularly essential to Rwanda as 29% of the population still lacks access to safe drinking water*. This leaves many people at risk of health issues and affects overall community and national development. Information such as simple hand washing techniques helps keep families who lack access to safe water healthy.

Healthy families grow and develop communities. Developing communities can impact nations. As Family Impact is founded on the desire to build families and transform communities, it is a joy to do our part in bringing health and wellbeing to the fast growing nation of Rwanda.
