About Uganda

Known as the Pearl of Africa, Uganda is located in East Africa.  Like Kenya, Uganda suffers with high rates of HIV infection (6.5% of the population), and communities contain high numbers of orphans and child headed households.  For many years the northern part of Uganda experienced significant internal conflict as a result of the civil war between the government and the Lord’s Resistance Army, leading to the deaths of thousands and internal displacement of over one million people.
