Family Impact is a fellowship of Christian movements across Africa united by a common vision to build families and transform communities.

This is achieved through the development of materials and training programmes that equip couples, men, women and children with skills to strengthen family life. All our training materials are developed in Africa, for Africa. They are biblically based, but are designed and presented in a way that is acceptable to people of no faith or different faiths. We focus on equipping, serving and helping communities, especially rural and vulnerable communities in Africa.

You can learn more about this by reading about our approach, our real life stories, and the impact of our work.

Our Story

Family Impact was founded in 2001, through the pioneering work of David and Janet Cunningham in Zimbabwe and Tom and Helen Malande in Kenya. Through collaboration with Scripture Union, Family Impact sought to reach the families of children across Africa. While we often see programs for vulnerable children, the heart of Family Impact is to reach the home of every child. We aim to find ways to support the network of families in a village and community so that sustainable change can take place.

It is with sadness we share that Janet Cunningham died in May 2009. Her passion and drive for families enabled Family Impact’s establishment and growth in those early years even in the face of huge obstacles. Janet’s vision has far outlived her and much of what she dreamed possible has now started to be realized. David Cunningham remains a strong pillar in the team, and is currently the Board Secretary of the Africa Board.

Family Impact Africa

Family Impact Africa (FIA) is the central hub from which the work is coordinated across Africa. Each country movement is independently registered with its own governance structures and boards in place. The role of the FIA office is to build collaboration across movements, capacity build the movements, where possible raise funding for local initiatives, and most importantly ensure that the focus of the organisation and its materials is kept in line with the vision, values and objectives of the organisation as a whole. The Family Impact Africa office is also the central point of contact for the UK and USA charities.
